My Story:
I was visiting my family in Southern California and I had with me a new iPad.
I had not purchased any Apps, so I was not familiar with the App Store.
When I arrived, everyone went into the living room to talk and
catch up. My niece, Paige, who was 9 years old at the time,
was sitting next to me. I mentioned my new iPad and Paige
immediately asked to see it. She had never had an iPad before.
I gave her the iPad and everyone continued chatting.
Not more than a minute or two later, I glanced over to see
how Paige was doing. I figured she might need my help with
this new computer.
Wrong!
I don't know how she knew what to do, but Paige had already
downloaded a free app! The app, Toca Doctor, seemed to
have her in its spell in mere seconds. She loved it!
After she was done using the iPad, I wondered if there were apps that were both fun and educational for kids. I went to the online App Store. Sure enough, there was an education
category and thousands of iPad apps for kids!
Criteria
There are over 20,000 apps in the App Store for education apps and the number of apps
is growing very fast!
The criteria to be selected on our website include the following:
1. Apps must be both educational and fun for kids.
2. Apps and/or the app developer must be highly rated and trusted.
3. App developers must support their users with fixes and improvements, as needed.
As new apps are added to the App Store, we constantly update our reviews and videos.
But, which are the best educational apps for your kids?
Finding the Best iPad Apps for Kids is Anything but Child's Play
I asked friends who were parents how they decided to select an app for their kids.
I also asked my sister, who is a parent and had been a teacher for over 10 years about
her experiences finding the right kids apps.
Everyone explained that the App Store and iTunes provided copy and screen shots on
each app. Of course, my friends knew that the information was like advertising as it was
from the developers of the apps, but still, that was the number one way to learn about
kid's apps.
Despite this information, my research found that this information was not helpful enough
since there are over 20,000 kids apps and no real way to really see how the app worked.
And, sometimes parents would download an app based on the copy, be disappointed
with how it worked, and delete it. A waste of their time and sometimes, their money.
I decided there had to be a friendlier and more effective approach that could help parents
and educators. After a few more months of research, I wrote a book on the best apps for
kids, and followed it up with Kids Best iPad Apps; a website where the best educational
apps for kids had videos of the apps in use and reviews.
Simpler, easier and more fun.
My mission is to make the entire process of finding the right apps for your kids less of a
hassle and even more interesting. Our site will help you with unbiased, expert reviews
plus videos of these apps so you can actually see how an app works.
We will create for you the largest online library of videos and reviews of educational apps
for kids. And, over time, Kids Best iPad Apps will become a trusted resource when you
are searching for the best apps for kids. You may even want to watch the videos with your
older children to help select which apps to download and buy.
If you have time, please email me to let me know what you think and how I can make my
